1984 Publishing came to me with the opportunity to art direct, design, and layout a book for my childhood hero “Weird Al” Yankovich. For this book; “Weird Al” and his drummer John “Bermuda” Schwartz, wanted to take unseen black and white photographs from the 80’s, and put them into a coffee table book that elevated “Weird Al’s” aesthetic. I went about this by giving the book a modern design style to present the pictures in all of their rich old-school-cool glory. With special touches like accordion end pages, and vivid silver accents on the collector’s edition, both versions of this book give “Weird Al” the prominence he deserves as an American treasure.
